The Kansas City Royals are a professional baseball team in Major League Baseball (MLB) based in Kansas City, Missouri. The Royals compete in the American League (AL) Central division along with the Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins. Their main rivalry outside of their division is with their interstate neighbors, the St. Louis Cardinals. The team plays its home games at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
Kauffman Stadium opened in 1973 as Royals Stadium and is also known as The K. The ballpark is open-air, with a capacity of 37,903. Besides the Royals it has hosted major concert such as Billy Joel, REO Speedwagon and Van Halen.
