The New York Yankees are a professional baseball team in Major League Baseball (MLB) based in the Bronx Borough of New York, New York. The Yankees compete in the American League (AL) East division along with the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, Tampa Bay Rays and Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees–Red Sox rivalry is one of the oldest, most famous and fiercest rivalries in professional sports. They also have a rivalry with their cross town New York Mets. The team plays its home games at Yankee Stadium in The Bronx, NY.
The new Yankee Stadium opened in 2009. The ballpark is open-air, with a capacity of 47,309. Besides the Yankees, it is the home to MLS’ New York City Football Club (NYCFC). It has also hosted major events such as Championship Boxing, International Soccer Matches, numerous College Football games including the Pinstripe Bowl, the NHL Stadium Series and major concerts such as Jay-Z, Roger Waters and Madonna.
