The Washington Wizards play their home games at the Capital One Arena based in Washington, which opened in 1997. Their previous home arenas were the International Amphitheatre, the Chicago Coliseum, the Baltimore Civic Center and the US Airways Arena. As well as many arena changes over the years, they’ve also had many name changes to represent the new locations including Chicago Packers, Baltimore Bullets and Washington Bullets. In 1995 the name changed to Wizards after owner Abe Pollin expressed a dislike of the name Bullets and the violent overtones it exudes.
The Capital One Arena has a capacity of 20,656 and is also home to the National Hockey League’s Washington Capitals, the Arena Football League’s Washington Valor and the Georgetown University men’s basketball team. There are concerts hosted at the arena as well with the likes of Carrie Underwood, Post Malone and The Chainsmokers.
