The Utah Jazz are a professional basketball team in the National Basketball Association (NBA) based in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Utah Jazz compete in the Western Conference Northwest Division along with Denver Nuggets, Portland Trail Blazers, Oklahoma City Thunder and Minnesota Timberwolves. Utah Jazz were originally called New Orleans Jazz before the team moved to Salt Lake City in 1979 and were renamed. They were named Jazz as homage to New Orleans’ jazz music.
The Utah Jazz play their home games at the Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City, which opened in 1991. The arena was originally called the Delta Center, and from 2006 to 2015 it was renamed to the EnergySolutions Arena before being changed to the Vivint Smart Home Arena. In 1999 the arena had to spend $3,757,000 to repair its roof after the Salt Lake City Tornado. The arena has a capacity of 18,300 and was once the home of Arena Football League’s Utah Blaze, and WNBA’s Utah Starzz. The arena was used in the 2002 Winter Olympics for the short track speed skating and figure skating competitions, and was referred to as the Salt Lake Ice Center during that time. In the film “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde”, the arena was used to film some of its scenes. When not being used for basketball, there are concerts and events hosted at the arena ranging from Guns n’ Roses to Disney on Ice.
