The Phoenix Suns are a professional basketball team in the National Basketball Association (NBA) based in Phoenix, Arizona. The Phoenix Suns compete in the Western Conference Pacific Division along with Golden State Warriors, Sacramento Kings, Los Angeles Clippers, and Los Angeles Lakers. They are the only team in this division that isn’t based in California. The Phoenix Sun’s main rivalry is with the San Antonio Spurs which originated in the 1992 NBA play-offs when they met for the first time in the first round.
The Phoenix Suns play their home matches at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix, which opened in 1992. Previous to this arena they also played at the Arizona Veterans Memorial Coliseum from 1968 and relocated to the Talking Stick Resort Arena when it opened. Previous names for the arena are the America West Arena up until 2002, and the US Airways Center until it was renamed to its current name in 2015. The Talking Stick Resort Arena has a capacity of 18,422 and is also home to WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury, and IFL’s Arizona Rattlers. It was also once home to NHL’s Arizona Coyotes and ECHL’s Phoenix RoadRunners.
The arena has seen many superstars perform here including Bon Jovi, Van Halen, Fleetwood Mac, and most notably, Frank Sinatra gave one of his last performances here in 1993. You can currently see the likes of Mumford and Sons, Eric Clapton, Iron Maiden and Jonas Brothers perform here, as well as WWE Monday Night Raw.
Phoenix sometimes gets a bad rap for its food choices. Respectfully we’d have to disagree. If the sun doesn’t get you, these foods will make your mouth water. Try the Cochinita Pibil at Barrio Cafe, the Lamb (and heavenly bread) at Binkley’s, the ribs at Don & Charlie’s, the brisket at Little Miss BBQ and the The Pizza Margherita at Pizzeria Bianco.
