The Detroit Red Wings are a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL) based in Detroit, Michigan. The Detroit Red Wings compete in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference along with Montreal Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Ottawa Senators. The Detroit Red Wings has a huge rivalry with the Chicago Blackhawks, and was considered the most intense rivalry when they were in the Central Division together. What’s noteworthy is both teams were once owned by James Norris until his death in 1953, and the teams were split between his sons James and Bruce. Established in 1926 the Detroit Red Wings were originally called the Detroit Cougars, and were also called the Detroit Falcons for a short time before changing to the Detroit Red Wings in 1932. The Detroit Red Wings play their home at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, which opened in 2017. Before moving here the Detroit Red Wings called the Joe Louis Arena their home for a staggering 38 years.
Little Caesars Arena has a capacity of 19,515 for hockey games and is also home to the NBA’s Detroit Pistons. The arena has also hosted UFC and wrestling matches, and was used for the 2019 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. It was recently used to host the e-sports tournament League of Legends Championship Series with an opening performance by Jax Anderson. Concert goers can enjoy performances here from the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion, and Carrie Underwood.
