The Ottawa Senators are a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL) based in Ottawa, Ontario. The Ottawa Senators compete in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference along with Detroit Red Wings, Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens, Tampa Bay Lightning, Florida Panthers, Boston Bruins, and Buffalo Sabres. The Ottawa Senators have a rivalry with the Montreal Canadiens which dates back to the first ever NHL game between the original Ottawa Senators and Montreal Canadiens in 1917.
The Ottawa Senators play their home matches at the Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, which they’ve called home since it opened in 1996. The arena was originally known as The Palladium and has been renamed over the years to the Corel Centre, the Scotiabank Place, and to what it’s now known as, The Canadian Tire Centre. Prior to playing here they played at the Ottawa Civic Centre (currently known as the TD Place Arena) for four years. The Canadian Tire Centre has a capacity of 18,652, and was also used a temporary home to the Ontario Hockey League’s Ottawa 67’s when their own home was being renovated. The arena has hosted many ice hockey events including two games in the 2007 Stanley Cup Finals, the 2009 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships, the 2012 NHL All-Star Game and the 2013 Women’s World Hockey Championships. There is also events held at the arena with concerts from the likes of Celine Dion and The Lumineers, and family fun entertainment with the likes of Paw Patrol Live!
