The New York Islanders are a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL) based in the New York metropolitan area. The New York Islanders compete in the Metropolitan Division of the Eastern Conference along with Washington Capitals, Carolina Hurricanes, New Jersey Devils, Columbus Blue Jackets, Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, and New York Rangers. The New York Islanders have a rivalry with the New York Rangers, which is known as the Battle of New York.

The New York Islanders split their home matches between the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, which opened in 2012, and the Nassau Coliseum in Long Island, which opened in 1972. The Nassau Coliseum was their original home from 1972 until 2014 when they relocated to the Barclays Center. However, after four seasons they started to split their games between the Barclays Center and their former home. They will be relocating to Belmont Park when it opens in 2021.

The Barclays Center has a capacity of 15,795 and the Nassau Coliseum has a capacity of 13,917. Both arenas have hosted professional wrestling matches but the Barclays Center is known for hosting other sporting events as well such as basketball (being home to NBA’s Brooklyn Nets), boxing, MMA, and gymnastics. The Nassau Coliseum was featured in the film “Music & Lyrics” in 2007. Both arenas are used for concerts and other events such as Blink-182, The Avett Brothers, Hugh Jackman, Sesame Street Live! Make Your Magic, and Disney On Ice.
