The Arizona Coyotes are a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL) based in Glendale, Arizona. The Arizona Coyotes compete in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference along with Calgary Flames, San Jose Sharks, Vegas Golden Knights, Anaheim Ducks, Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, and Los Angeles Kings. The Arizona Coyotes were established in 1971 as the original Winnipeg Jets and were in the WHA for seven years before moving to the NHL in 1979. In 1996 they moved to Phoenix and were renamed the Phoenix Coyotes. They were renamed the Arizona Coyotes in 2014 after their move to Glendale.
The Arizona Coyotes play their home matches at the Gila River Arena in Glendale, which opened in 2003. They previously played at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix up until 2003, and have played at the Gila River Arena as both iterations of the Coyotes. The Gila River Arena has a capacity of 17,125 for its ice hockey games, and was once home to NLL’s Arizona Sting. The arena has hosted other sporting events such as ArenaBowl XXIX and the Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions, both in 2016. You can also see concerts at the arena including the likes of Post Malone, Cher, and Chance the Rapper.
Phoenix sometimes gets a bad rap for its food choices. Respectfully we’d have to disagree. If the sun doesn’t get you, these foods will make your mouth water. Try the Cochinita Pibil at Barrio Cafe, the Lamb (and heavenly bread) at Binkley’s, the ribs at Don & Charlie’s, the brisket at Little Miss BBQ and the The Pizza Margherita at Pizzeria Bianco.
