The Calgary Flames are a professional ice hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL) based in Calgary, Alberta. The Calgary Flames compete in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference along with Anaheim Ducks, San Jose Sharks, Vegas Golden Knights, Arizona Coyotes, Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, and Los Angeles Kings. The Calgary Flames’ main rivalries are with the Vancouver Canucks, which started in 1981, and with the Edmonton Oilers which often gets referred to as the Battle of Alberta. The Calgary Flames play their home games at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, which opened in 1983 and has been their home ever since. For three years before that they played at the Stampede Corral, and prior to that they played at the Omni Coliseum in Atlanta where they were known as the Atlanta Flames, before moving to Calgary in 1980.
The Scotiabank Saddledome was built not only for the Calgary Flames to call home, but to also host ice hockey and figure skating events for the Winter Olympics in 1998, and was originally called the Olympic Saddledome. It has a capacity of 19,289 and is also home to WHL’s Calgary Hitmen, and NLL’s Calgary Roughnecks. The arena hosts concerts with performances from the likes of Eric Church, Luke Combs, and Fleetwood Mac.
