The Los Angeles Kings are an ice hockey team in the National Hockey League (NHL). They are based in Los Angeles, California, and compete in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference along with Calgary Flames, San Jose Sharks, Vegas Golden Knights, Arizona Coyotes, Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, and Anaheim Ducks. The Los Angeles Kings have have a rivalry with the Anaheim Ducks which is which is referred to as the “Freeway Face-Off” as Interstate 5 can be used to travel between the team’s home arenas. They also have a rivalry with the San Jose Sharks which started in 1991, and the Chicago Blackhawks which started as early as 1970.
The Los Angeles Kings play their home games at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, which opened in 1999. Prior to that they played at the The Forum in Inglewood, which they called home for 32 years. The Staples Center has a capacity of 18,230 for ice hockey and is also home to NBA’s Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers, and WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks. The Staples Center has been used to host two memorial services in the last 20 years for both Michael Jackson and Nipsey Hussle. It’s also been used for hosting the Grammy Awards which has been hosted here 18 times since its first in 2000.
